Haven for migrant and resident birds and for it's wetland habitat Bundala is most famous for its migratory and resident birds and the only one Ramsar site in Sri Lanka. The migration period from August with the commencement of the harsh winter and continues up to mid - April, when the Southern Hemisphere " attracts " them with plenty of food and sunshine. Situated around 250KM south east of Colombo, The 6200ha park Bundala was first declared as a Sanctuary in 1969 and now a national park. The most significant aspect is its 20000 or more shorebirds residing at Bundala from August to April each year.

DAMBANA is a remote jungle village of indigenous people, situated about 300km from Colombo. The population of these indigenous ‘Veddha’ people now consists of only about 350 families, a number significantly reduced from a once thriving community. The ‘Veddha’ are so influenced by the imposing dominant culture that they risk losing their traditions and what has been their livelihood for centuries. However, they remain determined that their way of life will continue into future generations. The Chief himself told us on a recent visit to the village that his main worry is that he may not be able prevent the ‘Veddha’ traditions from dying out during his own lifetime. Visitors to this fascinating village have the opportunity to meet and chat with the people who live there, learn about their traditions, and gain a unique insight into their way of life.

Located some 101 km south east of Colombo, it is the centre of a long-established industry of precious stone mining including rubies, sapphires, and other gems. Apart from gem mining, the town is known for rice and fruit cultivations. Large plantations of tea and rubber surround the town. Tea grown in this region is called low-country tea. There is historical evidence to that this area had been inhabited by man during the ancient sinhala kingdoms in BC. Giant canal of kalinga (Kalinga Yodha Ela) built in the reign by king parakramabahu in the 12th century while the remains of Malagamuwa, Wilmitiya, Wasgamuwa and Dasthota tanks bear witness to the past prosperity of the area. Kalinga island (Kalinga Duwa) too is an interesting place to visit.

Yala is approximately 1,259 sq.km in extent and is located in the south eastern corner of the island. Its northern boundaries border the Lahugala Elephant Sanctuary and it has the added bonus of scenic ocean frontage. The terrain is a varied course of flat plains altering with rocky outcrops. The vegetation ranges from open parklands to dense jungle. Water holes, small lakes, lagoons and streams provide water for the animals and birds. The specialty here is the large numbers of elephants
